Day 2 of the camp was significant and fun! It started of with me and Yam Jim leading the morning devotions in bunk. Even though everyone was sleepy, I managed to get everyone to contribute and share their applications after taking turns to read the scriptures. Halfway through Andy came in to observe before we closed in prayer. The PT session was fun and especially during the laterals exercise where everyone had to half squat and shuffle across the basketball court. Some who did not do properly look more like there're shuffling to some clubbing music in Zouk. That exercise caused my thigh to ache quite a bit. We had breakfast after that and Kenneth initiated my team to present our cheer,it didn't turn out well and made me look like some fool as I seem to be the only one being high -_-"

During the workshop session, the leaders were given a chance to rest. Some of us took this opportunity to "chao keng" in our bunk. In a way, I had to rest cause I didn't sleep the previous night, it was a wise choice as it did boost my energy levels for the wargames later on. So basically from about 0945 to 1115 I was in lala land, oh and the portal to it was activated upon resting my head on my pillow. Felt so recharged after that! :)

Cooking session was disastrous for my group! haha but we had lots of fun. We wasted an egg after one of our members accidently dropped it after we fried it. The mushroom soup we made ended up tasting like milkshake cuz I added the entire packet of marigold HL milk into the mess tin. The button mushrooms added in tasted awesome! In the end what we cooked wasn't sufficient to fill out tummies and Andy was kind to allow us to take a packet of chicken rice and a loaf of bread to share.

The wargames was crazy. All of us smelled like raw teriyaki chicken sub especially after the subway soccer! Our team cheer helped us gain lots of sticks that afternoon. All the station masters loved our cheer! :) The games were violent and fun and we won all the stations except coconut dog and bone. I shall not elaborate on this further lol. The water bombs during the defend the shield game did helped relieved the stench from the subway soccer. Kenna pelted like some dummy cuz I was the one holding the shield!

After the wargames, my group was penalized due to unruly behavior. I did not want my team morale to be affected by this so I did not but the blame on anyone and instead reminded all of them to be mindful of their conduct from now on. I also emphasized and explained to my group that winning sticks is not everything, and that the fun, learning experience, friendships and trust forged were the ones more valuable than ice cream sticks :) I believe all of them are matured enough to understand.

During the evening session. I sensed that Lord's presence with us, everyone were all out to give praise and glory to God :)  Andy's message was about the 5 benefits of having a purpose driven life. After the sermon during small group, I just felt that I should talk to my group outside the hall as the hall was too noisy and distracting. During the discussion, instead of getting myself to run through the key points, I gave everyone a chance to share what they had learnt and I also opened the discussions for questions related or unrelated to the message. During this discussion I had the opportunity to emphasis on God's unique and special plan for each and every one of us and that he created us to achieve specific purpose and that God did not destined us to suffer alone in this life. I used this chance to mention the issue of sin in our lives, the very fact that we were born sinners and awarded the mandatory death penalty of eternal fire no matter how much we try to do good and that it was  God that did not give up on our fallen nature and loved us by providing for us a solution for this problem by sacrificing his son Jesus to take our penalty. As I shared till here, I sensed that I had to question them regarding their views on what I spoke, I directed my attention to my new friends and asked them if they had any questions or disagreement to what I just shared. Ryan then asked me why Jesus had to resurrect after his death. This was once another wonderful opportunity to re emphasize the credibility of Jesus's as why his death was so special. I replied him by saying that it is because of Jesus who was able to ressurect proves that he has the power to truimph over death. I mentioned that this gift has been offered freely by God and it is up to us to make the decision to receive it. So I took the step of faith to challenge my new friends to receive this gift. I told them once again that with God in our lives, we do not need to ever feel hopeless and alone in our problems and that we would be able to have a more meaningful purpose for our life. From here I challenged my new friends, Ryan and Yi Sing to receive Jesus and they agreed!

Before I led them in the sinners prayer I once again explain to them what is expected of them to receive this gift.

    1)  Acknowledge that we are sinners, fall short of God's glory and deserve death as the consequence.
    2)  Believe that Jesus came to die for us and take away our sins once and for all.
    3)  Receive Jesus into our lives and let Him be in control of it :)

And thus the whole of heaven rejoices after they repeated the prayer after me :)

The things that we go through during youth camp, the games, the cheer, new friendships, most of it will become sweet memories and experience after that. Have we ever challenged ourselves on leaving a significant impact on ourselves and on others after the camp ? Most would not think of this as we tend to think about our own enjoyment rather than the salvation of our friends. Have we turned out to become selfish and ignored the fact that the very those non-christian friends around us will never get to enjoy the benefits of God's Kingdom and suffer the eternal punishment?  Do we see youth/church camps as merely social gatherings for our very own circle/cliques rather than an avenue to bring people in and advance God's Kingdom?

During this camp, this are some of the mindset changes the we leaders and mentors hope to see in our youths
We also hope that after this camp you will desire to seek God's unique and significant calling for your life :)
If you are reading this as a christian, I hope you will take some time to reflect on what I mentioned.

This entry is dedicated to the campers of Youth Camp 2012  :) God bless!
