Hey ppl! I'm back! Yesterday, I went on an industrial visit to Singapore Airline House, or might as well say their hangar facilities and office to learn more about their work operations and company structure. I actually signed up for this trip very late as by the time i registered for this trip, there were already 46 students who signed up and the maximum number of students is 30 based on a first come first serve basis. This was really a miracle as even as I realised that I registered late, I deleted the mail, but God's favour was really upon me, about a week later, I received a confirmation mail that I had been accepted to participate. WOW! I really Thanked God!! I feel that this is probably a sign from God that the aviation industry is where he might want me to be in time to come. Yesterday, reached school at about 1pm, initially I was quite worried as there wasnt any trip facilitator/ic there as the place that was stated to meet at. As most of you may know me, I'm the panicky type.. haha... so I walked around the designated area anxiously and even asked the staff. At about 110pm, my panic was turned to relief, I finally saw the ic and went up to him and mark my attendance. The bus left the school at about 130pm. Including me there were about 20students who turned up.. reached the airport perimeter at about 245pm. Before we can enter, we got to exchange IC or driving liscence for a temporary visitor pass. The security at the entrance was really tight. Its just like a mini form of immigration, except there is no need for passport. All the hangars/cargo complex etc are all located within this restricted access.
Here, our trip coordinator had to collect all our ic to exchange for passes, and this took nearly 40mins. I stayed in the bus played worms with my friend over bluetooth. Later once the passes were settled, we had to alight our bus and take a SBS bus in.
Arrived at the SQ Airline House after 2 bus stops. Before entering I had to refrain from taking photos, as photography are not allowed in the compound. BUt anyway, I managed to take a few but not pictures of the hangar area as I was told that the security and rules very even more tight in that area. (Picture of a notice at the entrance of the Airline house)

On the way to the a room for Q& A and their coorporate video screening. Managed to take descreetly. There was a senior engineer who was assign to bring us around, his name was Mr Yap, he explained to us that people in the hangar were categorise into 2 different jobs. One group of technicians handling mechanical(eg. repairing/mantaining landing gear/flaps) and the other handling aircraft electronics(eg repairing/testing electrical systems). Was told that in the past mechanical engineers were given a nickname "greaseman" or something.. cant really remember... haha.. due to their dirty/sweaty job. Basically, SQ engineering is specialised in MRO

Mantainence/Repair/Overhaul of planes owned by SQ and other airlines. Currently, there is new hangar under construction built specially to accomodate the A380.Personally being in the hangar experiencing the life of aircraft technicians is really an eye opener for me, as I really know that it's not a job for people who can't stand the heat, humidity and noise from the machines and wearing the uncomfortable safety helmets and shoes. I think being a commercial pilot is still the best option...
