Though Xmen group is the smallest, we're so bonded as one from the start till the end :)

Its only been a few days after camp and I'm starting to miss all of them! :(

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the campers for giving their fullest participation and also for showing enthusiasm in all the activities and not grumbling/complaining to their leaders. For without your contribution and coorporation, this camp would not have been successful. I also want to Thank God for His hand of protection upon the campers.

This is the first time Iv been assigned this responsibility of being a camp leader in church. At first I was only approached to play the keyboard for the night sessions, after that I was approached by Kenneth to serve a higher purpose. Initially I was dead worried that the kids would get out of hand and climb over my head =/ but I am thankful that it did not turn out that way bcuz my group members were way too awesome and obedient:)I would like to pay special compliments to my youth leader Nicole who took the initiative to make our new friends blend in and feel welcomed and also helping me to keep a lookout on my members well being. Taking up a leadership role is a totally different exposure and experience as being a camper. I have learnt how to think for others first before myself and to ensure that my members welfare are well taken care of. It was also a good chance for me to hone the skill of handling group dynamics and morale. Many times, I learnt that the leader's body language and enthusiasm plays a major role in deciding whether the group is going to go all out with the fighting spirit or just switch off. It was an eye opener for me to see how things were being run in the camp and how key values and lessons were planned out meticulously to blend in with the relevant activities. For eg. Dinner "prank" was so called meant to teach everyone that God had given us different portions of talents and it is up to choose how we want to use it, as its human nature for us to be selfish and keep the perks to ourselves instead of sharing it to help others grow. As God's children, we should be an agent of change to the world. We are born to take the initiative! its a calling from God to His children :)

Day one was crazy, I was on drum duty that morning and with all the barang barang, I could only afford to bring a pair of drumsticks instead of my usual yellow submarine bag that has my platter of sticks and brushes. After service, even though it started pouring like mad, the campers were all crazy and high. And at that time i still wasn't sure of who my group members. In the bus, the noise level was madness to the extent that some of the leaders had difficulty giving instruction due to the ill behavior, and I was quite disappointed that I had to scream to get everyone to keep quiet. Upon reaching the camp, I was faced with a problem as boy s from avengers did not want to stay in his team and insisted on coming over to my group. But then I tried to convince him to go back but he did not want to and started showing attitude. The best part is that Im not even that close to him in church and I really did wonder why he wanted to stick with me so badly. Catherine from Avengers even tried to get him over but he refused. In the end this case had to be brought up to the camp commander. In the end he was given the permission to stay in my group. I felt happy and bad at the same time. I felt happy because now I have a powerhouse hype in my joker to bring up my group morale, I felt bad because as a leader I compromised the camp rules that group changes are not allowed. This event also created unhappiness among the leaders and it did not reflect well on us.

I really thank God that my group bonded very quickly. That night I taught my group the cheer I came out with. The cheer was modified from what my commanders taught me while I was in basic military training.

    The cheer goes...
We are the warriors of generation acts
Spirit of unity in our hearts
All out as one, ready to win
Against all odds we will fight!

X men warriors will beat u hah, thrash u hah 2x

My group learnt the cheer very quickly and they enjoyed it! I'm sure some other groups were shocked by what practiced did that night :)

Later on after lights out, I had some heart to heart talk with some of the youth leaders my age, the guys of my age group from Andy's G12. We chatted till 2am. We shared stuff like BGR, ex crushes/current crushes, compatibility factors, and also God's purpose for our lives. That night I could not sleep well as the aircon was freezing :(
